Centro is the old city: the Cinelândia with its opera house and museums, the lanes round the Rua do Ouvidor, the Praça XV on the bay and the Candelária church. To the north, the port has been rebuilt as Porto Maravilha, with the Museu do Amanhã and the MAR on the Praça Mauá and the Valongo Wharf, a World Heritage site of memory.
