Niterói faces Rio across Guanabara Bay. The ferry from the Praça XV is one of the great short journeys in the city, with Sugarloaf and the Christ behind you. On the cliff at Boa Viagem stands Oscar Niemeyer’s Museu de Arte Contemporânea, the MAC, and along the shore the Caminho Niemeyer has more of his buildings (niteroi.rj.gov.br).
Getting there
By the Barcas ferry from the Praça XV, then a short taxi or walk along the shore to the MAC.

Our advice: go in the late afternoon and stay for the sunset over Rio.
