The back story

About Rio at the table: the stars, the botecos and the beach

In the 2026 MICHELIN Guide Brazil, Rio has two restaurants with Two Stars, Lasai in Botafogo and Oro in Leblon, and six with One: Oteque, Mee at the Copacabana Palace, Oseille, San Omakase, Madame Olympe and Casa 201. Seven more hold a Bib Gourmand. Around them is the everyday Rio table: the boteco on the corner, juice bars, Saturday feijoada and fish grilled by the sea.

The starred tables

Lasai, on the Largo dos Leões in Humaitá, and Oro, on the Avenida General San Martin in Leblon, hold Two MICHELIN Stars in the 2026 guide. The one-stars are Oteque in Botafogo, Mee at the Copacabana Palace, Oseille in Ipanema, Casa 201 in Jardim Botânico, and two neighbours in the same Leblon building on Rua Conde de Bernadotte: San Omakase and Madame Olympe.

The Bib Gourmands

Seven Rio restaurants hold a Bib Gourmand in 2026, MICHELIN’s mark for good quality, good value cooking: Maria e o Boi, Koral and Pici Trattoria in Ipanema, Brota, Miam Miam and Sult in Botafogo, and Artigiano by the Lagoa.

Book the starred tables weeks ahead, and plan dinner late: Rio rarely sits down before nine.

The Rio classics

Aprazível, on its terraces in Santa Teresa, Sud, O Pássaro Verde in Jardim Botânico and OCYÁ’s seafood in Leblon are all in the 2026 MICHELIN selection.

Feijoada, juice and the boteco

Saturday is the day for feijoada, the black-bean stew with pork, served with rice, farofa, greens and orange. The juice bar on the corner, the boteco with its cold beer and petiscos, and a caipirinha at sunset complete the Rio table.

Our advice: book one starred dinner, then spend the other nights where Rio itself goes out, in Leblon, Botafogo and Santa Teresa.
