BarraShopping opened in 1981 at Avenida das Américas 4666, in Barra da Tijuca, and grew with the district. It is joined to the NewYorkCityCenter, with its UCI cinemas, and has a medical centre and, since 1994, the Mercado da Praça XV, a traditional market brought indoors.
